The listening, reading and writing are taken together over a total of 2 hours 40 minutes. The speaking test will follow either on the day of the other tests after a short break or a week before or after. This depends on the test centre. span>
Scoring
You will get a score of between 1 (lowest) and 9 (highest) for each part of the test.Your average score from the four elements gives your overall band score.Your score will be given either as a full score (e.g. 5.0,6.0,7.0) or a half score (e.g. 5.5,6.5,7.5). if your average includes .25 or .75 it will be rounded up to the nearest or full score band.
The UK’s Nursing and Midwifery Council requires applicants to complete the academic version of the IELTS™ test and achieve:
at least band 7.0 in the listening and reading sections
at least band 7.0 in the writing and speaking sections, and
at least band 7.0 (out of a possible 9) overall.”
This can now be achieved by providing certificates from two sittings of the academic IELTS™,as long as there are no scores from below band 6.5 from either sitting and the tests were taken within six months of each other. (https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/joining-the-register/trained-outside-the-eueea/ielts/)
An IELTS™ pass at band 7 is broadly equivalent to level C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages(CEFR).(https://www.ielts.org/ielts-for-organisations/common-european-framework)
IELTS™ pass scores are valid for two years.
To Pass
There is no pass level. IELTS™ simply establishes our current level of English, so the only factor that matters is that the level matches what is required for your job. As mentioned above, to register as nurse in the UK, you will need a score of band 7.0 in each module and overall. The requirements will vary depending on the occupation.
Should I take the UKVI IELTS™ or the IELTS™ Academic Test?
UKVI IELTS™ is an IELTS™ examination in support of an application to the United Kingdom Visa and Immigration Service (UKVI), which has different requirements from those of professional bodies. Arranging initial testing under this methodology means you can meet visa requirements as quickly as possible. The band score requirements vary depending on the type of visa needed (http://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/ielts-ukvi/score),but the test score is also valid for professional registration purposes.
The IELTS™ Academic Test is for applying to higher education or professional registration in an English-speaking environment.Examination costs are typically lower than for UKVI IELTS™
